Kelowna Capital News' attention to Disability

Dear Kelowna Area Disability or Health Organization,

The Kelowna Capital News is undertaking an exciting new joint venture, partnering with People In Motion and the United Way of Central & South Okanagan/Similkameen. Beginning in January, 2008, the Cap News will devote one entire page each month, to news of special interest to citizens with disabilities and their families.

For the first time in newsprint, this significant – but often isolated – portion of our community will have a readily-accessible & ongoing news source dedicated to their needs, concerns & interests. A portion of each page will be devoted to announcements of “Upcoming Events” from community organizations such as yours, with these events to take place over the succeeding two months.

If you have an upcoming event in January, February or March of 2008, then email derekwatters@pimbc.ca and include your event’s:

  • name
  • complete description
  • date & time
  • location
  • sponsoring organization(s), and
  • contact info.

Only brief descriptions of events will appear in print. The complete descriptions are needed to enable us to decide between many events competing for the same month.

If announcement space is limited, preference will be given to events that appeal to the widest cross-section of our disability community. A good example of one such event is the annual spring “Kids In Action Disability Sport Awareness & Demonstration Day” at Tugboat Bay in Waterfront Park. This event is spearheaded by two disability organizations – People In Motion and Community Recreation Initiatives Society.

Be sure to keep the above info on hand so you can publicize your future events in the Kelowna Capital News, gratis. We look forward to helping you spread the word of your organization’s community-wide efforts.

Sincerely,
Derek Watters
