KSTE in Action
BCEOHRN Co-sponsorship

Knowledge synthesis, translation, and exchange (KSTE) is a key mandate for the National Collaborating Centres for Public Health. This conference will focus on research, education, implementation, and evaluation within the emerging science of KSTE and will highlight a range of initiatives that exemplify KSTE in action in the six public health areas of the NCCs: Aboriginal Health, Determinants of Health, Environmental Health, Healthy Public Policy, Infectious Disease, and Methods and Tools.

The conference will have presentations and Tutorials, in the areas of Motor Rehabilitation, Brain Computer Interfaces, Rehabilitation Robotics and haptics, Psychological and Environmental Rehabilitation, Vestibular and Balance Rehabilitation, Cognitive Rehabilitation, Telerehabilitation, Sociological, demographic and legal aspects of Virtual Rehabilitation and Regulatory, education and formative efforts to promote Virtual Rehabilitation. This CBRE institute offers a unique opportunity to depart from the traditional classroom setting and engage in a learning environment that demands critical reflection and challenging interactions. It will give par ticipants the knowledge and skills necessary to plan and implement a community-based research or
evaluation project.
Participants will learn about the principles of community-based research and evaluation, and about the processes of developing collaborat ive research partnerships. They will also learn how to choose appropriate methodologies and to consider the ethical issues involved wi th CBR&E. Learning objectives will be achieved by engaging in interactive dialogue, cri tical ref lection, and analytical thinking. Experts will guide our exploration of t he issues related t o the implementation of relevant change strategies and methodologies in HP.

2008 Summer Writing Workshop
The BC Rural and Remote Health Research Network (BCRRHRN) is hosting a
grant writing workshop this summer. The workshop taking place Aug 14th-15th at
the Vancouver School of Theology and is aimed at junior faculty or senior
students who are interested in developing grant writing skills. For those who are
coming from out-of-town, limited travel funds are available. Applications for travel
assistance to this event must be received no later than: July 29th, 2008 (see
attached travel application).

The workshop will take place Aug 14 & 15 at the Vancouver School of Theology, UBC Point Grey Campus, and is aimed at junior faculty or senior students who are interested in developing grant writing skills. For those who are coming from out-of-town, limited travel funds are available. Applications for travel assistance to this event must be received no later than July 29th. Accommodation is available at the Vancouver School of Theology Iona Hotel at a discounted rate of $75 per night. Bookings can be made either online (Enter “Grant Workshop” or “BCRRHRN” in the Additional info field on the form) or via phone: 604-822-6398 (Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 4:30pm).
